Job Description:

McKinley Homes is seeking an entry level GIS Construction Technician and Drone Operator to join our Operations team. The ideal candidate will have an understanding on how to use geographic information systems (GIS) (ArcGIS programs) and be capable of handling various spatial data tasks efficiently.  This role involves conducting drone flights to gather spatial data related to residential development projects, then produce accurate information and maps to support multiple departments in the company. The candidate will also need to walk through the construction sites monitoring development progress.

This position will involve both field work and office work.

Responsibilities:

  • Utilize GIS software to create and analyze spatial datasets relevant to residential construction projects.
  • Plan and conduct drone flights to collect aerial imagery, LiDAR data, and other geospatial information for project sites.
  • Process and analyze drone data to extract actionable insights and support decision-making processes.
  • Collaborate with multiple departments to integrate drone-collected data into project planning and design workflows.
  • Assist in land acquisition efforts by providing high-resolution aerial imagery and 3D models of potential development sites.
  • Conduct spatial analyses to assess site suitability, terrain characteristics, and environmental factors.
  • Construction site inspections of communities and projects around the Atlanta area.
  • Generate reports for use in multiple departments.
  • Walk through construction sites to document tasks completed by trades.
  • Providing support through various admin and office reporting

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Geography, GIS, Environmental Science, or related field.
  • Basic proficiency in ArcGIS software.
  • Familiarity with GPS technology and field data collection methods.
  • Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively in a team environment.
  • Ability to obtain the FAA Part 107 License.
  • Strong computer skills involving Microsoft office products.
  • Ability to walk through construction site involving multiple level of stairs.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds of equipment.
  • Must have their own vehicle and able to drive to construction sites for flights and inspections.

Desired Skills:

  • Familiarity with residential construction processes and terminology is a plus.
  • Experience with spatial analysis tools and extensions.
  • Experience operating drones for aerial data collection, including planning, piloting, and data processing.
